Episode #16: Over-reliance on the simple things

Jul 12, 2016 - 00:41:52

Ryan Buckland and Josh Elliott talk all things Round 16 in this week's episode of The Roar AFL Podcast. The guys start with a re-cap of Sunday afternoon's Eagles/Roos game, blowing up the post game "North have been exposed" narrative along the way. They switch to the Pies' surprise win over the Giants - both nominating the game as their most surprising result of the weekend - and Josh finally gets Ryan to make a firm commitment as to just how "all in" he is on GWS' prospects this season. The duo address the "Sydney over-rely on Lance Franklin" myth that has popped up on a few occasions this year, play a game of of mystery AFL stats, and wrap by updating the listeners on their little wager regarding the coaching hot seat in 2016. Episode #15: Stamping their top four tickets

Jul 5, 2016 - 00:55:32

Josh Elliott and Cam Rose unite for this week’s edition of The Roar AFL Podcast. In a wide-ranging podcast, Josh and Cam talk about the Western Bulldogs’ stirring win at the SCG, who by now surely have broken their reputation as an Etihad-only side. The Saints cop a bit of a roasting for an insipid display against Gold Coast, and the duo parlay that into a roast of those members of the media that over-rely on ‘winning the contested ball’ as a measure of success. Cam puts the Tigers under the spotlight as the discussion turns to coaching and whether Richmond are in need of a change. The week ahead gets a look in, and one of the duo reckons one coach’s future may be on the line this weekend. Finally the guys take some questions from Twitter. The Roar AFL Podcast is available on iTunes, SoundCloud and theroar.com.au every Wednesday during the AFL season. Episode #14: A challenger exposed

Jun 26, 2016 - 00:49:06

Cam Rose and Ryan Buckland give the Monday morning wrap a trial this week, although they do so making an almighty assumption about the last game of the round. The guys discuss Thursday night football and whether it can be improved, noting that this week saw a well-rested Adelaide side host a North team coming off of consecutive six day breaks. As one popular coach likes to put it that's certainty not ideal for the non-rested team. Discussion moves on to St Kilda's upset win over a previously-rampant Geelong, and Ryan and Cam break down how the Saints managed to get over their more fancied opponent. Ryan brings out some stats as the duo play "Guess That Player", and they wrap by taking a few questions from Twitter. The Roar AFL Podcast is available on iTunes, SoundCloud and theroar.com.au every Wednesday during the AFL season. Episode #13: The Hawks are done, and Geelong are just getting started

Jun 21, 2016 - 00:31:38

Yes, football was played last weekend, and Cam Rose and Josh Elliott have plenty to discuss. The guys start where every conversation that Josh is involved in naturally flows to anyway: North Melbourne. Cam uses last Friday's game to remind listeners that North fans have a permanent chip on their shoulder, but the discussion quickly turns to whether the Hawks are any good in 2016. There's strong disagreement, and if you've read The Roar this week you'll know which side of the argument each member of the duo falls on! Geelong feature heavily this week, with Cam crowing their victory over the Dogs as the most impressive finalist-on-finalist showing of the year. Finally, the guys look ahead to what looks at face value like an average round of footy - but we all know what happens when calls like that are made. Episode #11: The best season since sliced bread?

Jun 14, 2016 - 00:35:24

Cam Rose and Josh Elliott are in the cockpit this week, reviewing a round that either completely destroyed or thoroughly confirmed what you thought you knew about the 2016 AFL season. As ever, the boys spend some time discussing North Melbourne and whether they are, in fact, any good. Is Cam coming around to the idea that they are? You be the judge. Josh and Cam ponder whether West Coast are at risk of falling out of finals contention, with a much improved team lurking just outside of the eight primed to pinch their spot. Coaching is another hot topic, and the guys discuss whether the stewards of Brisbane, Collingwood and Richmond are in trouble with 10 games remaining. That, plus loads more! Episode #08: Flags, Medals and Coaches on the Agenda

May 17, 2016 - 00:32:19

Josh Elliott and Ryan Buckland are on deck this week, to kick the tyres of the teams sitting atop the ladder after eight rounds. Are North Melbourne a threat for the flag, even though they're undefeated? The boys switch to Fremantle, and offer some different views on where the club is at, and what is a reasonable course of action from here. The best two players in the competition are obvious, but who is the third? One member of the team goes a little crazy. Finally, the guys rehash their pre-season bet that 'no coach would be sacked during the season', and Josh declares it might be time for him to brush up on his West Coast knowledge in preparation for being on the losing side. Episode #02: Round in review, plus Josh & Ryan play Last Man Standing

Apr 5, 2016 - 00:35:23

In this week's edition of The Roar AFL Podcast, Ryan and Josh from theroar.com.au run their rulers over the round just gone, cooling off some of the scorching hot takes that have been flying around in the process. They discuss the surprising disappointment of a Friday night game without Carlton's involvement, whether the Saturday Showdown told us more about the Crows or Power, and ponder just how terrible the West Coast Eagles are when it comes to Hawthorn and the MCG. Neither Cam or Jay were available to give their two minute take of the weekend's action - we haven't heard from them since Friday night - so Ryan leads things off with a quick word on the difference between process and outcome. In other words, scoring might have fallen a touch this round, but the standard of football was, for the most part, excellent. Among other things, they ask who is the superstar of this team, ponder whether Lindsay Thomas should be suspended for staging, and question whether this team is nothing more than middle of the road. Will they fall out of the eight all together? Or will they end up in the top two, as one host is predicting?
